WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR
Spring’s bittersweet tears
For life was never more with us
Than when we bathed in mercy.

I hear the church bells ringing
And the birds take flight into the cold spring skies
And of all the things that I wish to do
I want to know what it is like to soar with you
Through the mundane things of this world
Because masturbation is not love
Pornography is not love
Equality is not love
Love is free from our imagination
As free as the rain that falls from the heavens
Mountains valleys oceans alleys
She can not be rented nor invented nor paused
So forget about yesterday and tell me about now
What brings you pure joy
Love.

Warm gentle rays
Briefly unclench the concrete town
Winter draining into the swollen underearth
Whose bowels digest the dark of your discontent
But who am I to mistake your magnificence
Your cool air invigorating life’s purpose
Oh lift me up
Once more.

Waiting for the bus to come
To take away these long arctic minutes
Oh sun have mercy
Reveal my forgiving heart.

And so I have spoken too soon
Your pressures in the sunlight
Long weekends overexposed
Arctic water drops from your hair
A dark rock eclipsing the sea
You insist on what you know
How do I move a stranded whale
I think you must keep your place.
