BIO

Nomzi Kumalo is a South African-born, France influenced and naturalized Norwegian singer, songwriter and poet who found salvation in seeking her truth. Kumalo’s music is a cinematic tale that migrates from her South African childhood, through France, and beyond the frozen wilds of Scandinavia.

Kumalo sings without filters, connecting with her audiences with a striking french pop, pop and soul fusion sound. Her music portrays the innocence of young love and the anguish of adulthood. As a little girl she loved to wake up to the sound of her grandfather playing classical piano, when he would visit. She spent Sundays dangling her feet from the pews of the Baptist church as she absorbed hymns and harmonies.

Kumalo became an explorer whose music was forged in solitude, far from the familiarity of home. Born to a Xhosa mother and a Zulu father, now based in Oslo, Kumalo has journeyed through Europe, stripping away vices and gathering eclectic influences that give her music a timeless edge and a naked honesty. Kumalo speaks openly about facing down the demons of addiction and the pain of stepping out from behind the drink that muffled her senses; but more importantly the enjoyment and clarity of vision in her writing since beginning her recovery. This brought her the opportunity and honour of teaming up with Brian Vibberts, the 6x Grammy Award winning producer and engineer and Multi-Grammy Award winning mastering engineer, Joe Bozzi to engineer her music.

Thank you

I registered on WordPress 5 years ago. It is truly wonderful to see familiar faces from back when I started. How far we have come. It also feels good to welcome new faces here too. Love is everywhere you look, it’s true.

Jot down words on a piece of paper. Start writing and see what happens to your life.

Wishing you good health and all the best in 2019 🌸

Life can get challenging sometimes, so when it does, find the light; in a poem, a song, a good conversation, a shared meal, rest, under a tree or by the sea.

I remember going through a painful period in my life that pushed me to write my first WordPress post about returning home to South Africa, essentially to myself. Some day I will tell you about how poetry chose me back then. For now I keep writing and editing my poetry book.

Over 1000 followers later, I am truly grateful for your support, guidance and inspiration 🌸

ME

I can write, sing, paint etc. I am one of those people who love so may different subjects. But something changed, drastically. It began the day that I stopped pretending; when one by one I removed the toxins, the excuses and the lies that I told myself. All the noise.

I had buried my dreams so deep inside of me that life eventually shook me so hard, to such an extent that I ended up in rehab. Part of my journey of healing required that I share my inner world with you. I committed to writing a poem each Monday and sharing it with you. This practice became my way of opening my heart and remembering the way to my dreams. And that is where my musical journey began.

Anyhow, you will find selected poems that I have written between 2014 – 2017, a lot of which are a work in progress towards my poetry book. Currently, my focus is on my music and I am trusting that process. When it comes to my poems, I will let you know as soon as my book is out one day because this is how the magic began. In the meantime, please feel free to read my poems, listen to my music and come to my concerts. Discover what poetry is for you. For me, each poem and song that I write is a plea for love in this world.

I believe that silence is golden. I believe that most answers lie in nature, meditation and yoga; within ourselves. I believe in love.
