Buildings stand as concrete as the cold truth
Revealing a day as empty as a new rubbish bin
Yet the trees seem to know what to do with this
This longing longing longing for the eternal light
Leaves now quivering in the chilled silver winds
Yes the city trees do what they are meant to do
Nothing more despite the facades of progress
They are not anxious about it, no not at all.

Oh, I love this tree poem, Nomzi. It sounds like you’re able to “hear” the trees, in the same way I do. You’ve captured their spirit well. What the trees know is to grow and reach for the light, their dignity always intact. They do indeed “know”. We must be kindred spirits. 🙂

Your poems are stunning – they have their own breath – thank you also for following my Jazz and poetry blog – I am close to recording some of my own poems with music, so I am very happy to learn of your journey – there are not enough poets in the world – be assured that your poems let in more light at the very time that is needed – in fact your words reached all the way to the South Pacific – John Fenton – JazzLocal32.com

Trees are so strong and steadfast. And in the city, a reminder of what we’ve lost of our own wild nature under all that cement and glass and steel….

I love trees more and more. Indeed. They also remind us to return to nature. 🙂

Yes indeed. Curiously enough I am rather surprised by the responses to this poem. One of the few that I have written in one morning sitting and also posted without too much reflection. I appreciate your visit as always Dilip. I hope that you have a lovely relaxing weekend. 🙂

Yes, the city trees embrace their condition and they embrace the changing seasons, what is natural. Thank you for the visit Lemony. I hope that you are well.

Love this for some reason it reminds me of the following by Rainer Maria Rilke “To be an artist… means to ripen as the tree, which does not force its sap, but stands unshaken in the storms of spring with no fear that summer might not follow…” Beautiful writing, I do not think I will ever view city trees in the same light again…”they do what they are meant to do, nothing more despite the facades of progress.”

Indeed amazing that Rainer Maria Rilke. Thank you so much for the introduction. Wonderful. And thank you for letting me know what you think.

Everything passes. What seems eternal wears down with time. But the seasons and the planet turn as always. I really like this poem.
