Itchy ears as they speak of you back home
When you have wandered far enough to miss
Worms snuggling and turning the wet earth
Mysterious signals within the simple duties.

WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR
Itchy ears as they speak of you back home
When you have wandered far enough to miss
Worms snuggling and turning the wet earth
Mysterious signals within the simple duties.

This poem chimed absolutely with my current reading, Nomzi – Noni Jabavu’s The Ochre People. Do you know it – it documents an all too brief visit home to South Africa – a land she had hardly lived in – yet still she struggles to honour convention, trying to reconnect with her culture and family – their traditions and history, the family politics, and all this at the very moment when apartheid is kicking in. Your poems are tiny nuggets of gold 🙂

Hello Tish, now I know about it. Fantastic. It sounds like a very interesting and relevant read. Thank you for the tip. And your encouragement is simply priceless Tish, so thank you so very much for your support still. I hope that you are enjoying the sunshine, the tiny treasures too and having a wonderful summer. Warm greetings from the north. 🙂

We say when your ears burn or feel hot, someone is talking about you. If your nose itches, company is coming.
Oh you HAVE wandered VERY far. Practically to the other end of the Earth.
I have been told of the beautiful golden yellow sky of South Africa, and seen photos. I think I could love a sky like that.

Yes, that is what I am referring to. Stories and tales and superstitions and myths. The importance of messages big and small, in the ground, in the sky, all around, inside 🙂
It certainly is the other end of the planet. And I do miss those skies that I have never seen elsewhere. You would love those skies. I would love to describe them one day in a poem. Thank you Bear 🙂

If your skirt hem turns up, kiss it before you turn it down, and you will get a new skirt. 🙂
